Welcome Introduction Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4 Part 5 Summary

Getting Started

This program provides an essential level of familiarization with each of the five sub sectors of the bus industry:

  1. Urban Transit Services
  2. School Services
  3. Intercity Services
  4. Tour and Charter Services
  5. Accessible Services

As you process through Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 of the program, you will become familiar with Tasks and Sub Tasks that are unique to each of the sub sectors. However, 80% of the Tasks and Sub Tasks performed by Professional Bus Operators are common core in all five sub sectors. Therefore, as an example, if you think you might be suitable to employment in the Tour & Charter sub sector, i.e. "Part" 4 of the program, be aware that most of what you will find in Parts 1, 2 and 3 will also apply to you! And, you will be "quizzed" on the common core information in each of the four Parts.

During the program you will note that "Kim" is presented as a prospective candidate for training and employment; and that she will "shadow" various Bus Operators during their daily shifts to help her discover whether she will seek employment as a Bus Operator. In the real world this does not happen; but, it is allowed in this cyberspace program as a method of getting you the closest view possible of the occupation.

As you process through the sub sectors presented in Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, you will note that the Essential Skills Profile components required in each sector are very similar and necessary in all sectors.
